Premier League Preview: Old foes clash in London, West Ham blowing bubbles and Man City look to stay top

MAVERICK GAMES

Our soccer expert previews the action and shares his betting tips for matchday four in the Premier League as the headline game sees Arsenal host old foes Manchester United.

Manchester City vs Fulham (Saturday 14:00 UTC)

Manchester City have started strong winning all three opening games of the new season despite not really being at their full potential. Pep won't be in the dugout for their game against Fulham this weekend with Juanma Lillo taking charge for his second temporary game of the season. Has the influential manager been the struggle you wouldn’t think so given the squad and strength that City have.

Marco Silva’s team don’t really have the firepower at the moment with Mitrovic and his seeming unwillingness to play for the club him being their main talisman is never ideal but the club really need to strengthen in that area of the pitch. Midfield is a different story with Adama Traore and Willian they have a strong physical presence which is a match for any team but I doubt they will get anywhere near some of City’s star performers.

Saying that, last season's home and away win for City, but only just. The inevitable Haaland scoring a goal in each game also the young pretender in Alvarez following suit will the pattern continue. City to win is a must I would say at 1.149 and at 2-1 to match last season’s results is priced at a worthwhile 10.26

A draw at 9.23 might be worth some interest.

Brighton vs Newcastle (Saturday 16:30 UTC)

Seems a very poised match looking at this from the outside a club with huge financial advantages when needed and a ‘selling’ club yet it’s the latter in Brighton that are ahead so far this season with two wins and one draw this season so far and sitting in 6th. Newcastle with a loss and in 13th need to find a bit more firepower for sure. The Liverpool game and THAT Nunez goal will ultimately be on the player's minds as a missed opportunity so will want to prove a point and repeat last season's 4-1 win in Newcastle.

Roberto De Zerbi will be stinging at the loss at West Ham as they had so much possession in the game (79%) but lacked that ruthless and clinical finisher 25 shots and 10 on target but only one scored is not a great conversion for a Premier League team. Maybe the Caicedo cash needs to be spent and quickly.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe and his players looked almost bewildered as the final whistle sounded after a rollercoaster encounter and Liverpool were celebrating a superb smash-and-grab win.

They were left to rue failing to take advantage when they were in complete command against Liverpool, reduced to ten men, a goal behind and struggling to cope with the intensity of Newcastle's pressing game, they should’ve wrapped this game up, they won't want a repeat in this game. Odds are very split in this one with Brighton at 2.52 and Howe’s men at 2.57 with a draw being at 4.00 also both teams to score price at 1.432.

Arsenal vs Manchester United (Sunday 15:30 UTC)

Premier League classic for a second weekend with this encounter being, in the past, some of the best matches and performances seen in the league. Keane and Viera tunnel escapades, 8-2 scorelines, brawls and title-deciding clashes always make this fixture a spicy affair.

The Gunners are currently sitting in fifth place in the league table following their two victories and one draw. Erik ten Hag's side, meanwhile, have recorded two wins and one defeat to be in eighth position.

Arsenal had been the favourites to clinch the Premier League title last season, but a few slip-ups saw them surrender their position to rivals Manchester City.

Mikel Arteta's squad is determined not to repeat those same errors from the previous season. However, their recent draw with Fulham highlighted that there is still significant work to be done to maintain their performance. Gone are the Adams/Bould days, they need more defensive warriors like that in the team nowadays and a 20+ goal a season striker.

On the other hand, Manchester United had a promising start to the season that was disrupted by the loss to Tottenham. Fortunately, they staged an impressive comeback against Nottingham Forest to secure three points.

Both sides have strengthened so far this transfer window but with a lot more work to do and with Hojlund yet to make an appearance for Erik’s side; will that be the key to unlocking those goals alongside Fernandes and Rashford, or is more needed?

Arsenal are priced at a short 1.813 and a draw is 4.07 but a United win at 4.18 is worth a shot. If you’re looking at the scoreline from the last match in January of this then a 3-2 to Arsenal is priced at 18.80.
