Premier League Preview: North London Derby headlines blockbuster weekend

MAVERICK GAMES

Our soccer expert previews the action and shares his betting tips for matchday six as the North London Derby tops the bill in a huge game in the Premier League this weekend.

Manchester City vs Nottingham Forest (Saturday 14:00 UTC)

Pep Guardiola's Champions League winners host two-time European winners Nottingham Forest at the Etihad, with City powering ahead in Europe and domestically simultaneously, despite having a slightly depleted squad. City should’ve done better against Red Star Belgrade - having so many chances and lots of possession but ended up dragging out a 3-1 win.

Again though, that man, Erling Haaland is continuing his goalscoring domination with seven goals so far this Premier League season, three ahead front of the chasing pack, but leaving them for dust already. Albeit he hasn’t really been at his 2022 season peak, especially when it comes to hat-tricks. Steve Cooper is hoping his additions to his squad will come good this season with Chelsea’s forgotten man Callum Hudson-Odoi finally on the score sheet for Forest last weekend, but they sit in eighth place with a sporadic record in the last fice games with only two wins but still above the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United and Newcastle.

City’s start is unbeaten with five wins and 14 goals scored even without the likes of Jack Grealish and Kevin De Bruyne in the side, others have stepped up to fill that void. This could be a tricky match for The Citizens but still favourites at 1.137 and Forest at a punchy 18.79 but maybe worth it going for a draw at a healthy 9.29.

Arsenal vs Tottenham Hotspur (Sunday 13:00 UTC)

This is undoubtedly the big standout fixture of this weekend and will be a spicy affair for sure. With their form in the new 'Ange-ball' system, Tottenham will be confident they can defeat Arsenal in the North London Derby this weekend. Mikel Arteta will welcome the Lilywhites to the Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon in what is expected to be a an outstanding titanic clash.

The Gunners head into the match off the back of a super impressive 4-0 win in the UCL on Wednesday against PSV Eindhoven and a patient 1-0 win over Everton at Goodison Park last weekend in the league, extending their unbeaten start to the Premier League season with five wins and a draw and sitting in fourth going into the weekend.

Spurs will also be feeling invincible sitting in second place, only by goal difference though, so expect some movement in those positions at the end of this weekend. Ange Postecoglou has come in from Celtic with his non-nonsense approach to his management of the players and clearly bringing out the best of a dynamic James Maddison and maybe even Richarlison is beginning to show his potential.

Arteta’s men are still favourites in this match by a surprising margin at 1.68 and Spurs at 4.48, but expect goals from both teams which is priced at 1.537.

Liverpool vs West Ham (Sunday 15:00 UTC)

Similar to Spurs and Arsenal, Liverpool sit in third place with four wins and a draw West Ham would be in the same situation if it wasn’t for the loss at the hands of Manchester City last weekend. James Ward-Prowse looks a bargain at the start of this season coming in from Southampton for around £30m, adequately filling the void left by Declan Rice’s move across London to the Emirates - adding a few goals which always helps the cause.

Jurgen Klopp’s squad does look super attacking and very formidable with Trent Alexander-Arnold moving into a more attacking midfield role paying dividends, but the whole team need a little more time to gel together and seems a little disjointed at times. But promising signs are there with a great mix of experience and youth in the squad.

In the last league match between the two teams, Klopp’s men came out on top, but only just. A 67th-minute Joel Matip goal secured the win but they dominated in all areas ending with 73% possession for the whole match, David Moyes’ men just really couldn’t get a handle on the ball at all and only seven shots compared to Liverpool’s twenty. Can't see it going any other way this time around.

Liverpool are priced at 1.389 with The Irons at 7.18 for the win and a draw at a reasonable 5.58. A nice market to watch is for over 2.5 goals for Liverpool priced at 2.08 and 1.781 for under OR maybe go for a big scoreline here with Salah and co. winning 5-0 at 31.07.
