Premier League Preview: Newcastle host Arsenal, London rivals Spurs face Chelsea

MAVERICK GAMES

Our soccer expert shares betting tips and previews some huge games in matchday 11 in the Premier League, including Tottenham against Chelsea on Monday night.

Manchester City vs Bournemouth (Saturday 15:00 UTC)

The Cherries travel north to the Etihad Stadium for one of their toughest away fixtures. Manchester City will look to build on last weekend's Manchester Derby with another three points to keep the pressure on current leaders Tottenham, who are two points ahead. Bournemouth on the other hand, languish just above relegation at 17th place and would be happy to travel home with a point at least.

The Citizens dominated with an emphatic 3-0 victory against rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford last Sunday, courtesy of a brace from Erling Haaland and a third from Phil Foden. The Norwegian international forward is once again off to a superb start to the season, with 11 Premier League goals currently. He could've attempted to go for a hat-trick late in the game but showed excellent comradery by setting up Foden for a tap-in. Total - 1st Half Over 1.5 at 1.917.

Haaland picked up another accolade midweek at the annual Ballon d'Or Awards in France, receiving the Gerd Müller Trophy. The award is given to the Striker Of The Year and was given to him for his part in helping Manchester City to the treble. On his way to doing that he was the highest-scoring male player in the 2022/23 season, scoring 56 goals for both City and Norway in total. Bournemouth Handicap - Match +2.5 at 1.99.

The Red & Blacks enjoyed a sumptuous 2-1-win last weekend at home over lower-table rivals Burnley. The Clarets led early in the first half but were held for a draw for most of the game by a quickly proceeded equaliser from Antoine Semenyo. The Ghanaian international forward will be leading the charge to punch through the Citizens' defence. A late goal from Philip Billing allowed the wavering side to snatch three points and place them just atop the relegation zone.

A tough away fixture beckons here for Bournemouth with all the odds stacked against them they'll be looking to achieve a semblance of victory in any form and would be happy to secure a point or get on the scoresheet. Though it's doubtful either way, with the Blues once again in dangerously good form after a minor blip.

Newcastle United vs Arsenal (Saturday17:30 UTC)

Another North vs South battle beckons here, with the Gunners travelling to St James' Park for the last of the day's fixtures. Both sides were active in the Carabao Cup midweek with differing fortunes. The Magpies cruised past holders Manchester United 3-0, while Arsenal's term in the competition came to an end compliments of London rivals West Ham United.

Manchester let their Carabao Cup defence go to an elated Newcastle, as The Magpies recorded their best away win at Old Trafford in 93 years. Eddie Howe's men set up a mesmerizing quarter-final pairing against Chelsea and at the same time brought an end to their two-game winless run following defeat to Borussia Dortmund and a 2-2 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers. Another draw of 1-1 for this match is 6.53.

Miguel Almiron's, Lewis Hall's and Joe Willock's were all on the scoresheet midweek. Though absent from proceedings was Swedish international Alexander Isak who is currently out injured for another three weeks at least. The forward was popularly considered the main attacking force for the side with seven goals across all competitions thus far this season. His prolonged absence could well see Tyneside shopping for another striker over the winter transfer window to prolong the side's ambitions in various campaigns at home and abroad.

It's not all doom and gloom as hosts can still put up stern opposition to Arsenal's aspirations as Newcastle has won each of their last three Premier League home games without conceding in the process. English footballers Callum Wilson and Anthony Gordon will both be in the thick of it to put their side ahead, the latter seems to be in especially good form after helping his side accrue a point against Wolves with his brace last weekend ending the match 2-2.

The Red & Whites haven't won a League Cup since 1993 and the opportunity to add another to their trophy cabinet looked good. However, following a dismal display midweek, they'll have to look for silverware elsewhere as their ambitions were knocked by The Hammers. Martin Ødegaard's late injury-time goal was of poor consolation in a match where the side dominated proceedings with 72% possession and fourteen shots with three on target, but were seemingly unable to put the advantage onto the scoreboard. Total - Match Under 2.5 at 1.925.

The game couldn't have been a more different affair from last weekend, where Arsenal skipped to victory 5-0 over a troubled Sheffield United. English international Eddie Nketiah was the hero of the day with a hat-trick, pushing his total for the season to five goals out of ten league appearances. The victory last weekend ensured that the London club remain unbeaten ten games into the 23/24 season, putting them into a solid second place.

With the Magpies flexing a great defensive record at home and the Gunners parading an unbeaten streak in the league, we're on for an electric confrontation in Tyneside.

Tottenham vs Chelsea (Monday 20:00 UTC)

A gigantic London derby rounds off our Premier League preview, as Tottenham and Chelsea clash in North London. The hosts will be looking for a fifth straight victory that would see them remain at the top of the standings, while the Blues will be looking for a much-needed boost in points to clear them out of the lower half of the table, where they are currently in eleventh place.

Ange Postecoglou has had a great run of fortune at Tottenham this season, and the club strolls into this match atop the table two points over Arsenal. Spurs have won eight of their ten matches in the Premier League, a superb accolade that no other incoming manager has ever accomplished. It's widely perceived that Spurs have now got their biggest opportunity to win the league since they last did in 1961, a season in which they also lifted the FA Cup. The first club to achieve the Double since Aston Villa in 1897.

The Lily Whites maintained their immaculate start last weekend, by securing a hard-fought 2-1 victory at Selhurst Park away against Crystal Palace. Ever present in affairs this match was captain Heung-min Son, who netted the crucial second goal following some brisk passing from his teammates around the goal box. The South Korean international midfielder scored ten league goals in the 22/23 season and is set to demolish that tally with his current eight achieved by October's end already. Another result of 2-1 to Spurs this match is at 9.33.

The contrast South of the Thames couldn't be any different as Mauricio Pochettino's Chelsea is still very much a work in progress. The Blues trudged away from last weekend following their fourth league defeat this season, with Brentford being the latest to scalp the wavering giants 2-0 at Stamford Bridge. Another defeat also means that they have only three victories to their name this season, with a further three draws being of meagre consolation.

However, the previous record away at Tottenham gives reason for some optimism, as they have accrued nineteen victories from the thirty-eight clashes across all competitions. Over the same period, Spurs have landed just nine wins. Despite defeat in the most recent clash last February 2-0, Chelsea has won three of the previous five against Tottenham. It's well anticipated that the mire the club have found themselves in will not last forever and a victory in this match could rally the side for the season to come. Chelsea To Score? Yes at 1.321.

Favour goes to the current unbeaten league leaders Tottenham, who are having their best run of form in years. However, Chelsea’s record in this fixture casts a positive shadow over the South Londoner's chances. Though it'll take a season-defining outing from the away side to trip up a Spurs team and captain that shows no signs of slowing down.
